How Many Hand Fans for an Outdoor Wedding?
One of the most common questions we hear from couples planning warm-weather celebrations: do I need a fan for every single guest? The honest answer depends on a handful of factors — venue type, expected heat, and how you intend to use the fans. The planning table below is a practical starting point, not a guarantee of comfort (weather has its own plans).

Key Factors to Consider
- Ceremony heat & sun exposure. A fully exposed outdoor ceremony in peak summer is the highest-demand scenario. Always err toward more fans rather than fewer — a guest without a fan on a hot day will notice.
- Indoor vs. outdoor venue. Indoor venues with air conditioning rarely need fans for comfort; they work better as decorative favors in that setting. Outdoor or semi-open venues are where fans earn their keep.
- Favors vs. shared guest comfort. If fans are purely decorative keepsakes, an exact 1:1 count is usually fine. If they are genuinely needed for cooling, build in a meaningful buffer — fans get set down, lost, or grabbed by children.
- Wedding party buffer. Always add enough for your wedding party, officiant, and vendors such as photographers and coordinators who will be on their feet all day.
- Time of day. Late afternoon ceremonies are often the hottest part of the day; morning or evening ceremonies tend to need fewer fans for comfort.
